6 Main Parameters of Twin-Screw Extruder

The control parameters of twin-screw extruder are different according to different materials. The main thing is mixing and shearing effect, which directly affects the strength, toughness, flame retardancy and other indicators of the product.
The parameters are temperature, rotational speed, shear force, ratio of length to diameter, feeding sequence and so on. The main parameters of the twin screw extruder are as follows.

The Main Parameters of Twin Screw Extruder

1. Diameter of screw

Refers to the outer diameter of the thread part of the screw, expressed in “nun”.
The screw diameter series of parallel twin screw extruders has been specified in the standard JB/T 5420 Mel 2001 and JB/T 6491-2001.
The outer diameter of the conical twin screw extruder is divided into the large end diameter and the small end diameter, which is usually used to represent the specification of the conical twin screw.

2. Ratio of length to diameter of screw.

i/D represents ratio of length to diameter of screw. I is the length of the thread part of the screw and Z is the diameter of the screw.
The ratio of length to diameter of conical twin screw is (16-18): 1.
The ratio of length to diameter of parallel twin screws is larger: the ratio of length to the diameter of some twin screws is relatively small, which is close to that of a single screw, and the ratio of length to the diameter of some twin screws is larger.

3. Compression ratio

The compression ratio of the parallel twin screw is close to that of the single screw, and the compression ratio of the twin screw extruder is very large, which is mainly due to the gradual reduction of the diameter of the conical screw and the volume of the screw groove.

4. Screw speed range

Refers to the rotation speed of the screw when it is working, expressed in nmax-nmi and measured in r/min.

5. Motor power

It refers to the motor power that drives the screw to rotate, in KW.

6. Productivity

The productivity is related to the properties of the raw materials of the extruder and the structure of the mold.
It is the output per unit time indicated by the type of plastic products, in kg/h.
